Ensuring security, COVID-19 precautions during May 23 elections
It is a must-do to absolutely ensure security and the practice of COVID-19 prevention measures at the upcoming elections of deputies to the 15th National Assembly (NA) and all-level People’s Councils for the 2021-2026 tenure which is slated to take place on Sunday, May 23.

The instruction was mandated by General To Lam - Politburo member, Minister of Public Security, Member of National Election Council at an online meeting held on Friday with representatives of the authorities of Da Nang and the neighbouring provinces of Quang Nam and Quang Ngai.
General To Lam suggested that the Election Commissions of the three localities closely follow the provisions of the Law on Election of National Assembly Deputies and People's Council Deputies, and related directives.
Besides, importance will be attached to detecting any illegal entry into, exit from, transit through and residence in Viet Nam, tracking down the direct and indirect contacts of COVID-19 cases, and especially strictly handling any violations of COVID-19 rules and those who put up false, slanderous or lurid content online on elections.
Besides, the municipal/ provincial election commissions shall reasonably arrange the voting time frames for voters at polls in a bid to ensure virus prevention and security on the Election Day, with a heed paid to absolutely preventing further virus spread after the elections.

Addressing the online meeting, Da Nang Party Committee Deputy Secretary cum Chairman of the municipal Election Commission Luong Nguyen Minh Triet said that as of May 20, the city had housed 748,855 voters out of the total 1,169,480 local residents.
Till date, all candidates running for seats in the 15th NA and all-level People’s Councils for the 2021-2026 tenure have had online contacts with voters across the city to deliver their action plans they would implement if elected.
Da Nang Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Van Quang said that, in the past time, the city has made good preparations for the Election Day, with a focus on ensuring political security and social order.

Besides, the municipal Election Commission has drawn up very proactive plans, organised drills on election processes and released video tutorials for those who are evolved in election tasks.
In particular, Secretary Quang urged the National Election Commission to unify the guidance on letting eligible immigrant voters, especially those who are put under quarantine in the city, exercise their citizenship rights and obligations to cast their ballots right in the city.
