Free root and tuber vegetables distributed to residents across Da Nang
Thousands of tons of root and tuber vegetables have been distributed to families across Da Nang, with high priority given to poor households and workers living in rented accommodation during the first 2 days of tougher COVID-19 curbs.

Da Nang received a combined total of 640,501 tons of root and tuber vegetables in donations on August 16 and 17, according to the Da Nang Committee of the Viet Nam Fatherland. The vegetables were donated by Phuong Trang Group - FUTA Group, Sun Group Group and a business based in Cam Le District.
252 tons of root and tuber vegetables arrived in Lien Chieu District in the late afternoon of August 17. Volunteers then went door to door around residential settings across the district to deliver the donated vegetables to all.
Mr. Bui Hien from a poor family in Hoa Khanh Bac Ward said he was very happy and moved by the kindness of donators in times of COVID-19. He also said that it is a practical way to support poor families to help them improve the quality of their meals and feel secure and safe while isolating themselves under the direction of the municipal government.

More than 154 tons of vegetables arrived in Hai Chau District in the night of August 17, and they were promptly distributed to 13 wards to enable these localities to deliver vegetables to local residents in the morning of August 18.
"On normal days, these vegetables are not worth much, but they are really precious and highly valuable amid COVID-19 crisis. We are very appreciative of all the support of the municipal government, authorities at local level and involved people given to us”, said Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Hang, from Hoa Cuong Nam Ward, Hai Chau District.

Thanh Khe District received more than 150 tons of vegetables to distribute them to residents in 10 wards while the hardest-hit Son Tra District was allocated 157 tons of vegetables.
Besides, Son Tra District spent VND over 2.33 billion on providing food support for 4,675 households who are facing financial hardship due to COVID-19. Each family received 10kg of rice, 1 bottle of cooking oil, 1 bottle of fish sauce, and vegetables for treatment at a total cost of VND 500,000 VND.

Mr Huynh Duc Vinh, the Chief of Office of the Ngu Hanh Son District People's Committee, said that over 200 tons of vegetables and food items such as rice, instant noodles, fish sauce, all donated by Sun Group and Phuong Trang Group, have been till date distributed to local residents. High priority has been given to poor households, social policy beneficiaries, and vulnerable people, Mr Vinh remarked
