On August 6 and 13 , the ‘Mobile charity fair’ took place successfully with a total of 500 gifts handed out to poor households, each serving including 10kg of rice, fish sauce, cooking oil, monosodium glutamate, sugar and salt. People who are eligible to receive are given vouchers and receive gifts according to specific time frames to ensure safety measures of the pandemic prevention and control.
According to Ms Lu Thi Kim Hoa, Vice Chairwoman of the Lien Chieu district VFF chapter, at first, the ‘Mobile charity fair’ was aimed at supporting extremely difficult circumstances due to the impact of COVID-19 with priority given to poverty-stricken households, under poverty-stricken households, the disadvantaged, the single elderly citizens, single women and households residing in quarantine and blockaded areas; however, the recipients of gifts have been expanded to include people staying in the district facing difficulties as the result of the pandemic.
Mr Huynh Phuoc, leader of the ‘Quang Nam Human charity group’, one of the main resource-contributing resources of the market, said: "Lien Chieu District houses a large number of workers and students who are temporarily residing in and many poor households. We think that if this program is successfully implemented, it will bring many practical and meaningful in-kind gifts to locals. Therefore, we have tried the utmost to connect and spread information to as much number of benefactors as possible to contribute to the program”
Moreover, the ‘Mobile charity fair’ also contributes to the promotion of products that are strengths of the locality; thereby connecting organizations and individuals to participate in humanitarian activities in the community. Therefore, the organizers prioritized choosing products of local enterprises such as Hong Rice Agent, An Thanh Co., Ltd., Hong Huong Fish Sauce Co., Ltd. in the gift servings giving to the needy. These businesses also supported the program in the form of subsidies.
Thanks to practical activities to support people during the extremely difficult days of implementing social distancing, gift recipients feel very grateful and happy to receive in-kind gifts as well as financial packages from authorities at all levels. Seeing that, the Lien Chieu District VFF chapter is slated to organize 2 more fairs to maintain this meaningful program in case resources are mobilized.
