Prompt actions taken to handle flooding and landslides-prone areas in Da Nang

It is high time for Da Nang Da Nang relevant agencies to take proper solutions to prevent flooding in the city in the face of prolonged rains, in tandem with handling landslides-prone residential areas in a bid to evacuate residents to safe places in a timely fashion.

The aforementioned instruction was made by Da Nang Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Van Quang at the online meeting held on Sunday on storm and flood response and mitigation plans during the rainy season.

It was reported that, on Sunday, 140 households with a total of 514 people living in landslides-prone areas landslides in the communes of Hoa Bac, Hoa Lien, Hoa Son and Hoa Phu were evacuated to safety.

Secretary Quang underlined a must-do for the Hoa Vang authorities to continuously monitor and quickly evacuate more locals in case of prolonged downpours which may result in landslides at any time.

The city Party chief also requested the municipal Department of Construction to quickly fix equipment problems as well as ensure the timely operation of anti-flood pumps in the inner city.

Meanwhile, the municipal Department of Natural Resources and the Environment should task itself with monitoring the weather developments and the situation of waste generation so as to promptly implement environmental cleanups.

A heed should be paid to creating favourable conditions and supporting famers to harvest agricultural and aquatic products to minimize damage caused by potential floods.

According to the municipal Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue and Civil Defense, typhoon Conson-triggered heavy rain has flooded streets and residential areas in the districts of Hai Chau, Thanh Khe and Son Tra, Lien Chieu, Cam Le and Hoa Vang.

For the time being, the municipal Department of Construction is making joint coordination with other relevant units to handle flooding points citywide. 

Workers of the Da Nang Green Park Company are now rushing to prune the branches of trees alongside streets in preparation for the arrival of future storms.
