During the ‘decisive’ days fighting against the new COVID-19 wave in Da Nang, the city has seen many outstanding examples of the active engagement by the municipal Women’s Union at all levels through their highly creative and practical activities with the voluntary spirit and high sense of responsibility and enthusiasm to make efforts to contain the pandemic

Ms Nguyen Thi Yen, Head of the Women's Union chapter of Thach Bo Hamlet, Hoa Tien Commune, Hoa Vang District, has joined the duty at checkpoints every 3 days with a shift lasting 8 to 12 hours since 2020.
“Despite working in a protective suit under the extreme heat and sweating due to the high work intensity leading to quickly exhaustion, the strange thing is that after returning home to rest, we still have enthusiastically performed our duties at checkpoints to assist efforts to control the COVID-19 pandemic. Especially, with the encouragement of my family, I have always completed the assigned work and ensure to deal with duties according to the principles, in an accurate and timely manner following safety guidelines,” confided Ms Yen.

With the same high spirit of fighting the pandemic, Mrs Doan Thi Kim Thoa, Leader of the residential area’ Guard Board of Tam Thuan Ward, Thanh Khe District, at the age of 60, is still on duty at a checkpoints in her residential area. She is completely confident that she can fulfil her duties due to her experience earned from nearly 30 years of residential protection and Women's Union's duties.

In particular, 5 members of the guard group of an apartment complex for single women in residential group No.38, Hoa Minh Ward, Lien Chieu District are all women, including 3 single mothers who are raising their young-age children. Most of them are living in financially difficult circumstances; however, they have never neglected their duty at the pandemic control checkpoints as well as to complain about their hardships when the Hoa Minh Ward chapter of the municipal Women's Union came to visit. On the contrary, they have always devoted themselves to their work, regardless of day or night shifts.

Similarly, over recent times, the Hoa Phat Ward chapter Women's Union, Cam Le District, has deployed 19 member women participating in the guard force at the COVID-19 control checkpoints in the area.

It is worth noting that in addition to being on duty at checkpoints, Da Nang Women’s Union members have also actively participated in appealing for donations from philanthropists, doing shopping for people in blockaded areas, supporting the sampling on locals, mobilising tens of thousands of gifts from donors  to promptly hand-deliver them to the poor, maintaining the supply of thousands of meals a day for the frontline fighting the pandemic. Despite the heavy workload they have never refused when receiving assigned tasks.

Currently, the municipal Women's Union houses 1,273 officials and 1,158 members participating in community-based COVID-19 prevention and control groups. Among them are those aged over 60, the unemployed or low income earner, all of whom are not afraid of hardships and actively participate in the prevention and control of the pandemic duties. They always have faith that our city will win the pandemic one day soon.
