Meaningful support for returnees from pandemic-hit southern localities
Aside from in-kind and spiritual support from Da Nang’s authorities, the Da Nang Labour Union has promptly provided thousand liters of free petrol for people who have gone through the city on their way home from the Southern localities.
Free bottles of petrol are being provided for returnees from the South at a transit station at the Hai Van Tunnel |
This meaningful activity not only shows the sense of compatriots but also contributes to spreading the image of a liveable, friendly and hospitable Da Nang.
Vice Chairman of the municipal Labour Union Le Van Dai said union members were assigned at the transit station at the Hai Van Tunnel in Lien Chieu District, and at the Hoa Phuoc entrance gate in Hoa Vang District, to give 10,000 liters of gasoline free-of-charge to returnees from worst-hit Southern localities passing through Da Nang. Gasoline was stored in plastic bottles with a capacity of 1.5 liters each and then distributed directly to the returnees.
Mr. Le Huy Binh, 32, rode with his wife and his little daughter on a motorcycle to go back home in Thanh Hoa Province.
Binh said, after 10 years of leaving his hometown for Binh Duong Province, he gradually settled down in the locality and built his own small family. Normally, the couple's income was just enough to cover their lives and take care of their first daughter. However, the recent resurgence of COVID-19 outbreak has pushed his family towards the brink of poverty. After 4 months of being unemployed, Binh and his wife became frustrated. They wanted to return to their hometown to earn a living.
“I consider Binh Duong as my second home. I work at a factory and my wife runs a small business. We and our daughter are still living in a rented room. If there is no pandemic, our life is temporarily stable” said Binh.
Stopping at the transit station at the Hai Van Tunnel, Binh’s motorbike was out of gas. He felt very happy at receiving free petrol supported by the Da Nang Labour Union.
“I am really touched by this very practical and meaningful support from the Da Nang Labour Union” said Mr. Binh.
Le Thi Thuy and her husband, hailing from Nghe An Province, also fell into a similar situation.
The couple together worked in the Tan Thuan export processing zone in Ho Chi Minh City. They then lost their jobs because of the coronavirus outbreak.
Due to being unemployed and lack of living expenses, the couple decided to ride a motorbike to their hometown.
“On our way back home, we are supported with free petrol by the Da Nang Labour Union. We are very happy and feel that the way home is closer" Thuy said, breaking into tears.
Vice Chairman Dai said that his unit’s meaningful activity aimed to respond to the city’s instructions on supporting for people on their way home from the Southern localities, thereby facilitating a safe return to home for these returnees.
