The Da Nang government has given the green light to the implementation of the “Development of a public library system in the city over the 2021-2025 period with an orientation towards 2030” project.

Under the project, as for the target set for the 2021 - 2025 period, each citizen will read at least 0.8 copies of electronic and printed books at the city’s public library system. At least 50% of the city's population will access public library services. Also, a public library network will be developed across the city in a wide and flexible manner.

By 2025, Da Nang will strive to build its General Library into one of the country’s most modern digital libraries with high quality services.

Emphasis will also be on developing and optimally using geological documents about Da Nang and Quang Nam Province, along with other precious and rare documents.

Also, heed will be paid to upgrading of facilities, especially the existing reading spaces, and equipping with advanced technical equipment, in order to meet modern library development criteria and guaranteeing the requirements of serving between 100 and 150 readers/ library/day.

With regard to the city’s orientation towards 2030, each citizen will read at least 1.2 copies of electronic and printed books at the city’s public library system. At least 60% of the city's population will access public library services.

Moreover, each year, 20,000 copies of printed books; 2,000 titles of e-books; and 200 newspapers and magazines, all funded by the municipal budget, will be added to the local library system.

Most notably, the second campus of the Da Nang General Library will be built and put into use by 2030.

The aforementioned project is estimated to cost at more than VND432 billion which will come from the municipal budget and other legal financial sources. In which, close to VND51 billion will be spent for the 2021-2025 period, whilst the remaining more than VND381 billion will be used over the 2026-2030 period.
