Preserving relic sites and cultural heritages towards sustainable development

On Friday, October 29, the Da Nang Fatherland Front Committee held a meeting to assess a project on preserving, embellishing and restoring the Marble Mountains Tourist Area. Municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Ngo Thi Kim Yen made her attendance at the event.

According to a representative of the Viet Architecture Cultural Heritage Conservation JSC - the project's planning consultancy unit, the planned project, with a total area of 104.9 hectares, borders Truong Sa Street and some coastline areas to the east, the Co Co River to the west, the Co Co River and some residential areas to the south, and Pham Huu Nhat Street and the Hoa Hai 2 resettlement area to the north.

The unit proposed to embellish and preserve the current status of 5 existing old houses, and completely clear the remaining land lots (about 54,233m2) to build a village house combined with eco-tourism in harmony with the overall architecture of the cultural park.

Also, land lots and projects that have been allocated land, covering a total area of ​​15,870m2, will be managed and built according to the approved planning. Meanwhile, the remaining residential areas involving 657 households with a total area of 194,873m2 will be cleared.

Mr. Bui Van Tieng, Chairman of the Culture and Society Advisory Council under the Da Nang Fatherland Front Committee cum Chairman of the city’s Union of Literature and Arts Associations, highlighted the significance of the project in dealing with a relatively comprehensive problems in preservation and restoration work relating to six mountains at the Marble Mountain tourist spot, the East Sea, and the Co Co River. Also, the project will help to connect the islet near the shore and the park of ​​Sun Group opposite the left bank of the Co Co River.

Mr Tieng also stressed the necessity for the project’s developers to preserve ancient architectures and cultural and heritages during conservation work.

In her remarks at the event, Da Nang People’s Committee Vice Chairman Ngo Thi Kim Yen suggested the municipal Department of Culture and Sports continue to perfect the project in the spirit of ensuring harmony between the landscape and architectural landmarks, and respecting cultural, religious and spiritual imprints.
