14,500 Tet gifts to go to help the poor and victim of Agent Orange
On November 23, the Da Nang Red Cross Society held a ceremony to celebrate its 45th birthday (November 12), and the 75th birthday of the Viet Nam Red Cross Society (November 23).
Head of the municipal Party Committee’s Mass Mobilisation Board Le Van Trung, and Vice Chairwoman of the municipal People’s Committee Ngo Thi Kim Yen, made their attendance at the event.
According to statistics released by the Da Nang Red Cross Society, during the 2016-2021 period, the Society and its chapters across the city raised nearly VND213 billion from generous philanthropists to carry out humanitarian programmes in the city.
The donated money was used to help more than 370,000 people in need and 15,979 humanitarian addresses, present gifts to 102,336 people in difficult circumstances, and organise 550 first aid training classes for members.
During that period, 24 first aid points were set up across the city, and a volunteer first aid service network with 8,670 members was built.
Over the past 5 years, a total of 155,422 blood units were collected at the Da Nang Red Cross Society-organised voluntary blood donation campaigns. More than VND22.5 billion was spent on carrying out natural disaster mitigation and response, and emergency relief activities in the city.
Also at the ceremony, the Da Nang Red Cross Society launched the ‘Tet 2022 for the Poor and Agent Orange Victims’ campaign in the city.
Under the campaign, the municipal society and its chapters across the city will give a combined total of 14,500 Tet gifts, worth VND300,000-500,000 each, to the poor, social policy families, victims of Agent Orange, natural disaster-affected households, and those in need.
On the occasion, 67 individuals were presented the "For the cause of Humanity" commemorative medal of the Central Committee of the Viet Nam Red Cross Society, and 3 individuals were awarded the title "Outstanding Members of Viet Nam Red Cross Society during the 2016-2020 period ".
In addition, 9 individuals were honoured with the title of "Outstanding Members of Da Nang Red Cross Society during the 2018-2020 period ", and 12 individuals received Certificates of Merit "Typical Volunteers of Da Nang Red Cross Society in 2021".
Also, the Lifeboat Volunteer Club and Friends Volunteer Club made their debuts at the event.
