According to Lieutenant Colonel Bui Anh Tu, Captain of Border Guard Squadron No. 2, to ensure flood prevention and control, the unit's officers have presented to share difficulties with fishermen whenever and wherever they need with the hope of raising their awareness in tandem with joining hands to ensure sea security.
In point of fact, Da Nang has been affected by storms forming in the East Sea, by a host of whirlwinds and severe floods, causing terrible damages to people and properties for ages. Therefore, the sea is a place where fishermen can make a living as well as a fierce place taking away a lot of property and even lives.
However, thanks to the companionship with fishermen of officers and soldiers of Border Guard Squadron No. 2 over the past time, they have become reliable friends of fishermen in the city in particular and in the provinces engaged in fishing in the coastal waters in general.
Since the beginning of the year, the unit has saved 5 ships with 30 people in distress at sea and brought them back safely to the mainland. In addition, the unit has also closely coordinated with local authorities and other units to conduct propaganda to ensure maritime safety for fishermen.
Apart from that, the municipal Border Guard has built its own information channel to notify the weather, warn of natural disasters, and rescue fishermen in order to support them with information on their sea voyages, thereby mitigating the consequences of natural disasters.
In addition, the Command had thoroughly grasped each base unit, especially the border guard posts stationed along the coastal area. The Border Guard Squadron No. 2 also has printed documents on the frequencies and broadcast time frame of radio guard stations in the municipal border guard for fishermen to stick on their ships to monitor the weather and exchange information in case necessary. At the same time, the unit also build fixed and mobile storm cannon firing points to call for ships to enter safe storm shelters
Currently, units have assigned staff to be on duty around the clock at the watchtower and notify the frequency to the fishermen when having storms, and vice versa, fishermen will notify the authorities to handle when having an accident at sea
Prior to this year's stormy season, the Da Nang’s Border Guard had proactively developed and implemented flood prevention and control, search and rescue plans, in tandem with conducting ideological and political education for officers and soldiers to raise their responsibility and spirit of self-discipline in order to regularly practice for quick respond when being on duties helping fishermen at sea.
