The Da Nang People's Committee on Friday held the Lunar New Year Get-together 2022 and Certificates of Appreciation Awarding Ceremony for outstanding foreign organisations and individuals living in the city.

Present at the event were Standing Vice Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Ho Ky Minh and Chairman of the Da Nang Committee of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front (VFF) Ngo Xuan Thang.

Speaking at the ceremony, Standing Vice Chairman Minh said that in 2021, the city has actively sought innovative approaches, applied technological methods, and effectively organised many meetings, workshops and online seminars on investment promotion, trade, tourism, international cooperation with partners from the U.S., India, Finland, Netherlands, Sweden, Germany, Japan and Republic of Korea (RoK).

In light of COVID-19, the city proactively carried out its international responsibilities and gave active support to localities with which it has cooperative relationships, well handled the entry, exit, residence and travel of foreigners, conducted citizen protection activities and timely offered vaccinations against COVID-19 for foreign ex-pats in Da Nang.

In particular, Da Nang operated a hotline to support foreigners in need during the application of social distancing rule in the city and helped enterprises overcome difficulties triggered by COVID-19 to resume production and trade.

In 2021, Da Nang’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP) reached VND 105,050 billion. Its export turnover was estimated at US$1,810 million, up 15.4% compared to 2020 whist the import turnover stood at nearly US$1,400 million, up 12.4%.

The city also attracted 34 FDI projects with a total registered investment capital of nearly US$150 million in the past year.

When it comes to tourism, Da Nang is now one of the five Vietnamese localities to welcome international tourists on a trial basis. In particular, the city will host the Asian Route Development Forum 2022 event.

As affirmed by Standing Vice Chairman Minh, the municipal authorities have always hailed foreign organisations and individuals living and working in Da Nang for their affection and support for the city.

Their companionship during the tough times sparked by COVID-19 is the driving force for the city to set development goals in the new situation.

On this occasion, the Da Nang People's Committee rewarded 40 foreign organisations and 14 individuals for their outstanding contributions to the city in terms of international friendship, humanitarian aids and socio-economic development.
