In her remarks at the launching ceremony for the Association’s benevolence program to support the disadvantaged, Mrs Le Thi Tam, the chairwoman of the municipal Association of Charities and Children’s Rights Protection said that the COVID-19 pandemic which has already lasted for two years has led to a dramatic loss of human life nationwide and presents an unprecedented challenge to public health, as well as have had an enormous impact on economic and social growth of Da Nang. However, the association has still yielded positive results in raising its benevolent fund with impressive figures, and VND 49,017 billion were raised in 2020 while VND 49,045 billion were mobilized in 2021.
In the context of complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Da Nang government has joined efforts with political organizations and social communities to provide practical support for the poor to help them gradually improve their living conditions and assist disadvantaged students to follow their academic aspirations despite economic hardships. However, there are now 11,036 poor families, 6,247 children from poor households, 3,169 children in special circumstances, and 11,504 children at risk of falling into special circumstances across the city.
The association has exerted every effort to call on organizations and individuals at both home and abroad to donate to its benevolence program to support the disadvantaged children in Da Nang.
After nearly a month preparation, this year’s the "Early Spring Meeting - Warm Humanity" program has seen close to 40 domestic and foreign organizations, and individuals, including international non-government organisations, pledging billions of dong in donations, Mrs Tam said.
She highlighted the significance of valuable contributions by donors in helping children in special circumstances and poor families improve their living conditions.
