Giving attention in a timely manner

Mr Nguyen Van Hung, residing in Lien Chieu District, registered to learn truck driving at the Lien Chieu District Driver Training Center after being discharged from the army. Currently, he works at an enterprise in Hoa Khanh Industrial Park with a stable salary.

Similarly, Mr Nguyen Vu Minh Trung, residing in Son Tra District, was trained and then assigned by the Da Nang power sector to work in Son Tra District.

According to Mr Ha Thuc Lieu, Head of the Division of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs of Lien Chieu District, the district has welcomed 132 servicemen who had completed their military service to return to their localities in early 2022.

“The demobilized soldiers have been studied and trained in the army, so they have a high sense of discipline, moral qualities, health, and agile behaviour. Those qualities help them become a good workforce in society. This is the reason why the People's Committee of Lien Chieu District has always paid attention to directing relevant agencies to coordinate with businesses to consult on vocational training and introduce jobs for soldiers right after their completion of military service," said Mr Lieu.

In recent years, the municipal Military Command and the Department of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs have regularly coordinated with localities to introduce jobs for discharged soldiers after vocational training.

As shared by Mr Phan Van Ton, Chairman of Hoa Vang District People's Committee, in recent years, the district has focused on industrial development, so it needs skilled human resources. Businesses located in the locality have always given priority to recruiting demobilized soldiers since they have basic outstanding characteristics of the soldiers to respond and handle urgent situations. Therefore, they easily catch up with the working environment at the enterprise when entering the labour market.

Creating and expanding more job opportunities

In fact, vocational training for demobilized soldiers is a preeminent policy to help and create conditions for them to have jobs as well as a stable income. However, according to local Military Commands, the number of demobilized soldiers registering for vocational training has been still limited.

“To improve the effectiveness of vocational training and job creation, it is necessary to strengthen the propaganda on vocational training and employment for demobilized soldiers; at the same time, review and make statistics of young men who have completed military service to have timely support solutions; survey the labour demands of enterprises for timely advice and orientation", suggested Lieutenant Colonel Tran Phu Phuoc, Deputy Commander of the Military Command of Lien Chieu District.

These years, the Employment Service and Vocational Education Centre have regularly organised job counselling sessions for demobilized soldiers or integrates them into job sessions.

Since 2016, vocational education institutions have trained nearly 2,500 demobilized soldiers with permanent residence in Da Nang and more than 80% of apprentices get jobs after graduation.

Mr Nguyen Van An, Deputy Director of the city's Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, said that demobilized soldiers are also a good source of the labour force in local as well as abroad units under labour contracts. Therefore, the Da Nang Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, the Military Command and related units have signed a program to coordinate propaganda, career counselling, vocational training enrollment, and job creation for the target group in the period 2021-2025.
