The Party Central Committee's Office held a ceremony in Da Nang on Monday to award the 'Hero of the People's Armed Forces' title from the State President to the Finance and Trade Department of Zone 5’s Party Committee.

In attendance at the ceremony were Politburo member cum Permanent member of the Party Central Committee's Secretariat Vo Van Thuong, Chief of Party Central Committee’s Office Le Minh Hung, Da Nang Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Van Quang, and leaders of ministries, branches and localities.

Speaking at the ceremony, permanent member of the Party Central Committee's Secretariat Vo Van Thuong highly lauded great contributions made by cadres, soldiers, people of Zone 5 in general, and staff of the Finance and Trade Department of Zone 5’s Party Committee in particular during the resistance war against the US imperialists.

He added that despite difficulties and hardships, the Department’s staff always maintained their will, determination, solidarity, creativity and efforts to well fulfill their assigned tasks.

Mr. Thuong noted that the Department closely followed the revolutionary movement, as well as promptly advised the Zone 5’s Party Committee to build the Finance - Logistics sector and issued policies and regimes in service of the resistance war against the US in Zone 5. Also, it directly implemented effectively the financial and logistics policies and regimes in the whole area.

Most notably, with their flexible and mobile organisation methods, staff of the Department mobilised people in liberated and temporarily occupied areas to make contributions to the revolution and promote the movement of self-sufficient production and self-sufficient supply in service of officials, employees and soldiers in the whole area.

A total of 122 officers and employees of the Finance and Trade Department heroically sacrificed their lives during the years of the fierce resistance war. The remains of some martyrs have yet to be found. Over 200 war veterans are now wounded and sick soldiers, or contaminated with toxic chemicals.

On behalf of the Party and State leaders, Mr.Vo Van Thuong bestowed the ‘Hero of the People's Armed Forces’ title on the Finance and Trade Department in appreciation of its outstanding achievements during the past resistance war.

He hoped that the Liaison Board of the Finance and Trade Department would continue to carry out activities to gather the remains of martyrs and organise trips to old battlefields in order to maintain the close relationships and mutual assistance amongst the Department’s members.

He believed that the officials and employees of the Department would continue to inherit and promote their good tradition, set a shining example for the younger generations to follow, and contribute to building prosperous and happy nation to deserve the noble sacrifices of heroes and martyrs.
