Applying lessons learned from Don Nhat Victory for national construction and defence in new situation

The presentations contributed to clarifying many important issues and contents, summarising the tradition of heroic struggle, and applying lessons learned from the Don Nhat - Hai Van Gate Victory for national construction and defence in the new situation.

That statement was made by Lieutenant General Thai Dai Ngoc, Commander of Military Zone 5, at the Friday scientific conference entitled ‘70 years of the Don Nhat - Hai Van Gate Victory (September 25, 1952 -2022): Historical imprints, experience in building the people’s war posture’ in Da Nang.

In the summary report at the event, Major General Nguyen Hoang Nhien, the Director of the Institute of Military History, emphasised that each presentation was an elaborate research work, explaining each specific issue, thereby contributing to clarifying many theoretical and practical issues on the victory of Don Nhat - Hai Van Gate.

However, most of the presentations reaffirmed the correct policy of the Party, led by late President Ho Chi Minh, and the creative direction of the Party Committee of Inter-Zone 5 and Party committees at all levels, in building the main armed forces to meet the requirements of the resistance war against the French colonialists. In addition, they affirmed the vital role of the main armed forces in consolidating and promoting the importance of the people's war, and creating a synergy, which contributes to the victory of the anti-French resistance war.

The growth of the Battalion 59 is worthy of being the main unit of the armed forces of the Inter-zone 5, hereby contributing to the tradition of ‘a fighting and winning determination’ of the Vietnamese People's Army.

The presentations clarified the unique characteristics of the art of directing, organising and administering the battles, especially promoting revolutionary heroism; as well as analysed the impact and influence of the Don Nhat - Hai Van Gate Victory on the progress of the anti-French resistance war in Da Nang in particular, and in the inter-zone 5 battlefield in general, thereby drawing from experience and applying it to the cause of national construction and defence.

In his closing speech, Lieutenant General Thai Dai Ngoc, Commander of Military Zone 5, emphasised that the presentations contributed to clarifying many important issues and contents, summarising the tradition of heroic struggle, and applying lessons learned from the Don Nhat - Hai Van Gate Victory for national construction and defence in the new situation.

He underlined that the conference clarified the context of the resistance war against the French colonialists on the battlefields of Interzone 5 in general, and Quang Nam - Da Nang in particular, hereby highlighting the spirit of overcoming difficulties, self-sufficiency, self-sufficiency, self-construction of armed forces that contributed to the victory of the anti-French resistance war.

Additionally, the conference clarified the building and maturing process of the Battalion 59, Regiment 803, the Inter-zone 5 during the resistance war. And, the victory of Don Nhat - Hai Van gate is also the most obvious result of that process.

According to Lieutenant General Thai Dai Ngoc, scientific presentations on the victory of Don Nhat - Hai Van Gate have been compiled into a yearbook and are a source of valuable research documents.

Therefore, he asked departments and agencies at all levels, especially Da Nang, to actively widely publicise and educate traditional history of armed forces in the resistance war in general, and the victory of Don Nhat - Hai Van gate in particular, to all cadres, soldiers and residents. This will help arouse national pride, self-respect and the spirit of overcoming difficulties to well fulfill the task of building and defending the country in the new revolutionary period.
