Da Nang Party Chief praises local seniors for their important contribution to their city's growth
During his working session with a delegation of the Viet Nam Association of the Elderly (VAE) led by its Chairman Nguyen Thanh Binh on Friday morning, Da Nang Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Van Quang highlighted the important role of the Municipal Association of the Elderly, and senior citizens across the city as a whole, in making great contributions to the development of the city.

According to Secretary Nguyen Van Quang, nearly 6,000 older people are holding key positions in Party organisations, authorities at local level, and grassroots organizations across residential areas, villages, and residential groups around the city, proving that local seniors play an important role in Party building and promoting the development of the city, especially creating momentum for grassroots movements to operate effectively.
The Da Nang Party Chief urged the Municipal Party Committee's Mass Mobilisation Commission to work with the Municipal Representative Board of the Elderly and local relevant agencies to create a database of the city’s older people, develop software that provides utility services for seniors, as well as make a plan for Action Month for Older People.
Mr Quang asked for help from VAE to soon propose a unified model in the elderly associations at all levels thoughout the country to the national government in order to uphold the role of older people in promoting socio-economic development in their localities, as well as offer mechanisms and policies to provide the best care for such people.

VAE Chairman Nguyen Thanh Binh highly praised Da Nang for its remarkable achievements in socio-economic development, especially post-pandemic recovery. In addition, the valuable contributions of Da Nang’ senior citizens to their city’s growth were highlighted.
Mr Binh also asked Da Nang leaders to increase their visits to homes of seniors, especially in the upcoming Action Month for Older People.

According to the report from Mr Le Van Trung, the Head of the Da Nang Party Committee's Mass Mobilisation Commission, the city has nearly 113,000 people aged 60 and over, of whom, nearly 70,000 are receiving monthly allowances from the city budget. There are now more than 97,000 members of the Municipal Association of the Elderly. Da Nang houses 3 facilities that together provide shelter and care for 173 single older adults without support.
Over recent years, Da Nang has paid special attention to caring for and upholding the role of seniors in promoting the city’s development, as well as issuing support policies in efforts to provide material support and celebrate longevity for older people.

Also at the meeting, VAE Chairman Nguyen Thanh Binh awarded the campaign medal "For the cause of taking care and upholding the role of older people in Viet Nam" to Mr Nguyen Van Quang, the Secretary of the Da Nang Party Committee and Mr Le Van Trung, the Head of the Municipal Party Committee's Mass Mobilisation Commission, as well as presented gifts to outstanding members of the Da Nang Association of the Elderly.
