Da Nang Party chief urges greater efforts to evacuate residents as typhoon Noru nears

Da Nang Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Van Quang, on Tuesday, made a field trip to Hoa Vang District to check the locality’s preparatory works for typhoon Noru which is expected to slam the Mid-central region early tomorrow.

When visiting residential areas prone to landslides at the foot of the So Mountain in Hoa Son Commune and Le My Hill in Hoa Lien Commune, Secretary Quang encouraged local residents to soon complete the reinforcing of their houses and the covering of their belongings, and then quickly go to the evacuation points for safe storm shelters.

He urged local authorities to keep up caution and prepare for an upcoming typhoon with a focus on actively implementing the evacuation of people to ensure the safety of people's lives and health, as well as ensuring adequate supply of food for people at evacuation points.

During his visit to the Nam My Dam located in Hoa Bac Commune, as part of the Hoa Lien water plant project, Party Chief Quang directed the Management Board of Industrial and Civil Engineering Construction and Investment Projects to closely monitor the water level and weather changes to respond promptly and operate the anti-flood works safely.

Mr. Quang stressed the need for the district to encourage local residents to evacuate as soon as possible to ensure their safety. Localities should take the initiative to ensure food for evacuee, added he.

According to the Secretary of the Hoa Vang District Party Committee Pham Nam Son, in response to typhoon No. 4 as well as heavy rain and landslides, the district has set up 11 working groups to check evacuation points in localities. The district is urgently evacuating 6,569 households with a total of 21,278 people.
