Da Nang seeks investment opportunities in Germany

The high-ranking delegation of Da Nang, led by municipal Party Committee Deputy Secretary cum People’s Council Chairman Luong Nguyen Minh Triet, had a working trip in German from September 12 - 17.

Opening air routes, developing tourist market in European countries

During his meeting with leaders of the TUI Group on September 13 morning, Deputy Secretary Luong Nguyen Minh Triet congratulated TUI Group on opening the first hotel in Viet Nam under the brand name TUI BLUE Nam Hoi An.

Before COVID-19, Da Nang welcomed about 9 million tourists each year, including more than 2.5 million foreign visitors, but those from European countries only accounted for about 10% of the total international visitors to the city.

Therefore, Da Nang wants to attract more visitors from this market. The city boasts favourable geographic positions, high-quality human resources, and world-class tourism infrastructure. Also, it is calling for investment into seaside resorts, MICE and high quality eco-tourism for the European tourist market.

Mr Triet took the opportunity to ask for support from the TUI Group to advertise tourism products of Da Nang and Central Viet Nam as a whole to the European tourist market, promote the opening of charter flights from Nordic countries to Da Nang, and open more TUI brand names in Da Nang.

For his part, Mr. Stafan Baumert, CEO of the TUI Group, vowed that in the near future, TUI will work with Da Nang’s relevant agencies to promote the city’s destinations to European countries. TUI will study the proposal to operate direct flights from Nordic markets to Da Nang in the time to come.

Investment promotion in State of Bremen

Previously, on the afternoon of September 12 (at local time), a seminar to promote investment into Da Nang took place in the state of Bremen, Germany.

In his opening speech at the event, Chairman of the Da Nang Fatherland Front Committee Ngo Xuan Thang expressed his pleasure at fruitful results from bilateral cooperation programmes with German partners over the past time.

He highlighted the significance of the seminar in providing information related to the city’s investment environment and opportunities to German investors, aiming to encourage more German businesses and tourists choose Da Nang as a place to invest, do business, and relax.

At the seminar, Mr. Ricardo Benussi from the Dezan Shira & Associates Company, remarked that German businesses highly appreciated Da Nang’s investment environment with its competitive advantages in infrastructure and human resources, plus the municipal government's active support for investors.

He added the urban scale and industrial infrastructure of Da Nang were suitable for projects involved in the spheres of ICT, high technology, and tourism.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kolja Westley Umland, Regional Executive Director of Bremen's Economic Development Agency in ASEAN and Viet Nam, affirmed that Da Nang was a potential destination for businesses in the state of Bremen thanks to its available strengths.

Attending the seminar, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs cum Vietnamese Ambassador to Germany Vu ​​Quang Minh highly appreciated Da Nang for its efforts to organise the seminar in Germany. He noted that the signing of the cooperation agreements between the investment promotion agencies of Da Nang and Bremen during the seminar will be the basis for fostering their bilateral cooperation in many fields in the near future.

Deputy Secretary Triet revealed that, in the coming time, Da Nang will continue to prioritise attracting projects in the fields of high and advanced technology, environmentally friendly technology, clean energy, renewable energy, services, high-quality tourism, financial services, logistics and other modern services.

Importance will be attached to developing modern technical infrastructure, especially new industries on the basis of industry 4.0.

“Da Nang identifies European businesses and investors in general and Germany in particular as its key partners in investment promotion and attraction activities. The city leaders are committed to creating a transparent business and investment environment and facilitating German businesses to operate effectively in the locality”, emphasised Mr. Triet.

Expanding cooperation relationship with Bremen

Also on the same day, Deputy Secretary Triet had a working session with the government agency of the Bremen state.

During her reception for a group of Da Nang’s leaders, Ms. Kristina Vogt, Bremen Minister for Economic Affairs, Labour and European, affirmed that there is substantial room for developing the two localities’ relations, especially in the fields her state holds potential in.

Bremen also wishes to join Da Nang to intensify economic links, promote trade and partnerships between their enterprises, and translate cooperation potential into concrete projects to generate practical benefits for their peoples, she noted.

Deputy Secretary Triet highly appreciated the potential cooperation between the two sides in the fields of manufacturing industry, automation, shipping, logistics, information technology, and high-quality education. He affirmed that in the coming time, Da Nang will consider raising the cooperation ties between the two localities to the new level.

Also on September 12 (at local time), the Da Nang delegation worked with the leaders of the Jacobs University Bremen (JUB).

At the meeting, Prof. Dr. Arvid Kappas, the manager of JUB, said, the university is currently interested in developing joint training programmes at undergraduate and graduate levels, many short-term training courses, and student exchange joint projects with universities in Da Nang.

The city's delegation highly appreciated the proposals of Jacobs University, saying that it is willing to support and facilitate the Jacobs University to invest into this field in Da Nang.

At the same time, the delegation suggested the Acronic Group and Jacobs University implement the cooperation agreements on education signed with the Da Nang FPT Corporation, as well as introduce the University of Da Nang and a number of other local training institutions that have joint training and research programs in line with the development and research goals of Jacobs University.

Futhermore, the city's leaders noted the proposals made by the Jacobs University about the construction of the Research and Development Centres, and Technology Park in Da Nang in the future.
