Da Nang strengthens resilience to natural disasters
Da Nang People's Committee Chairman Le Trung Chinh has sent a report on the city's efforts to mitigate typhoon Noru and overcome aftermath of the storm, to the municipal Party Committee.

Local residents are safe
Typhoon Noru with strong winds at levela 10-11 and gustiness of level 13 affected the Da Nang-Quang Nam Province area from the night of September 27 to the morning of September 28.
The command and control work to respond to the typhoon was carried out throughout and uniformly from the central government to local authorities at all levels.
The municipal People's Committee held meetings to inspect and issue a notice to respond to typhoon No. 4, as well as set up a the city’s Command Board to respond to the typhoon.
Besides, the city and relevant agencies evacuated 21,653 households with 75,598 people, plus 13,681 students and workers to safer shelters, and ensured safety and adequate supply of food and drinking water to evacuees. Also, the city shut schools, government offices and wet markets as it braced for typhoon Noru.
Party committees and authorities at all levels identified the task of preventing, combating and responding to typhoon No. 4 as the most important and urgent task.
As of 6:00pm on Thursday, there were no deaths in the city due to the influence of typhoon Noru. Three houses of residents collapsed; 456 houses had their roofs blown off; 55.65ha of flowers and vegetables were inundated; 32.5ha of fruit and banana trees, 20ha of sugarcane, and 451ha of forest trees fell down; 3.3ha of net houses and greenhouses for agricultural production were damaged; a fishing boat ran aground; 6,369 urban green trees were uprooted; 3,876 substations encountered problems causing 283,688 customers to lose power; and 43 low-voltage poles were toppled.
After the typhoon Noru passed, Chairman Le Trung Chinh, on September 28 morning directed relevant units to quickly overcome its consequences.
Guaranteed to withstand strong storms, strong winds and floods
In the report, Chairman Le Trung Chinh asks all-level authorities and relevant agencies to review all plans for natural disaster prevention and control, especially the evacuation of residents and the ensuring of safety for fishing boats, to promptly adjust and supplement.
Along with that, it is necessary to develop a plan for pruning trees suitable for the age and growth process of trees to ensure the safety of road users in the rainy and stormy season.
The municipal Department of Construction is asked to continue to implement housing programmes; build models of model houses that are safe from storms and floods; guide and train the repair and reinforcement of houses, especially grade 4, non-permanent houses, to ensure safety.
Localities immediately review houses that are not stable and not safe, then proposing solutions, mechanisms and policies to support residents to repair and build new houses to ensure resistance to big storms, strong winds and floods.
The municipal Department of Industry and Trade is urged to construct anchoring areas for petrol and oil trading vessels in the Tho Quang Fishing Port and Wharf in the event of natural disasters, storms and floods.
