Inauguration of Don Nhat - Hai Van Gate and Le Son Fortress relics
The Da Nang Party Committee, the Institute of Military History under the Ministry of Defence, and the High Command of the city-based Military Zone 5 held a ceremony on Friday to inaugurate the Don Nhat - Hai Van Gate relic site, aiming to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Don Nhat - Hai Van Gate Victory.

Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court Nguyen Hoa Binh, Da Nang Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Van Quang, municipal Party Committee Deputy Secretary cum People's Committee Chairman Le Trung Chinh, and Chairman of the Da Nang Fatherland Front Committee Ngo Xuan Thang, made their attendance at the event.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Chairman Chinh emphasised that the Don Nhat - Hai Van Quan Victory relic site is part of the project on preserving, restoring and promoting the Hai Van Gate relic site.
The site is not only a symbol of the will and determination of Vietnamese people during the resistance war against the French colonialists, but also a monument honouring heroes and martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the cause of national liberation and re-unification, thereby contributing to educating the glorious historical tradition of the nation for present and future generations.
Chairman Chinh asked the municipal Department of Culture and Sports, the Lien Chieu District authorities, and related units to closely coordinate with the Thua Thien Hue province authorities to manage, protect and promote the value of the relic, hereby making it a ‘red address’ to educate the young generation about revolutionary ideology, patriotism and national pride.
Also on the same day, the Le Son Fortress Victory Monument in Hoa Tien Commune, Hoa Vang District was officially inaugurated.
In his remarks at the inauguration ceremony, Chairman Chinh wished the Party Committee, authorities and people of Hoa Tien Commune to continue to manage, preserve and promote the value of the Le Son fortress. He took the opportunity to ask the municipal Department of Education and Training to include the victory of Le Son fortress in a curriculum in high schools.

Also in the afternoon of September 23, Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court Nguyen Hoa Binh, Secretary Nguyen Van Quang, and Chairman Le Trung Chinh visited the family of Mr. Huynh Nam living in Hai Chau District who is former soldier of the Battalion 59.
Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court Nguyen Hoa Binh wished Mr. Huynh Nam a good health and kindly encouraged him to continue to be a good example for his children and grandchildren to follow.
On the same day, a book entitled ‘The Battalion 59 - Heroes in the heart of the people’ made its debut at the Da Nang branch of the National Political Publishing House of Truth.
The book features 3 parts. Part 1: History of the Battalion 59 - important milestones during the process of establishment and development.
Part 2: Heroes of the people's hearts - with16 articles about the years of glorious fighting through memories and touching stories of ex-soldiers of the Battalion 59.
Part 3: Some pictures and documents clarifying the Battalion 59's victories, and clearly showing the idea of the connection between the past and the present.
On the afternoon of September 23, the Da Nang delegation, led by Party Committee Deputy Secretary cum People's Council Chairman Luong Nguyen Minh Triet, offered incense and laid wreaths in tribute to fallen heroes and martyrs at the Martyrs’ Cemetery in Binh An Commune, Thang Binh District, Quang Nam Province, the Martyrs’ Cemetery in the Military Zone 5 and the grave of Hero of the People's Armed Forces Kostas Sarantidis Nguyen Van Lap. Also, they visited some social policy families in Quang Nam Province and Da Nang.

At the cemeteries, the participants observed a minute’s silence to commemorate heroic martyrs who laid down their lives for the Don Nhat-Hai Van Gate Victory, and those who gave great service to the national revolution.
The delegation went to burn incense at the grave of Hero of the People's Armed Forces Kostas Sarantidis Nguyen Van Lap.
Lap was born in 1927 in Athens, Greece and passed away in Athens on June 25, 2021. The hero’s remains were brought to Vietnam and rested at the cemetery of Military Region 5 in Da Nang city following his wishes.
When visiting the families of Mr. Truong Cong Vong in Dien Thang Trung Commune, Dien Ban Town, Quang Nam Province, and Mr. Le Vinh De in Hoa Ninh Commune, Hoa Vang District, Deputy Secretary Luong Nguyen Minh Triet wished them a good health and hoped that they will continue to set good examples for their children and grandchildren to follow, thereby join hands in building a prosperous and beautiful nation.
