A ceremony was held in Da Nang on Tuesday to celebrate the 55^th founding anniversary of the Party Committee of the former Quang Da Special Zone (October 1967-2022).

The event saw the participation of nearly 50 former leaders and members of former Quang Da Special Zone’s Party Committee, along with officials of the departments, branches and unions of the former Quang Da Special Zone who worked and fought in the Quang Da battlefield during the 1967-1975 period.

In his remarks at the ceremony, municipal Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Van Quang reviewed the 55-year heroic tradition of the establishment of the former Quang Da Special Zone, and highlighted Da Nang’s remarkable achievements over the past 25 years since the city’s recognition as a centrally-governed city on 1 January 1997.

He also expressed his deep gratitude to heroic martyrs and soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the cause of national liberation, reunification, and construction and development.

Secretary Quang affirmed that over the past 25 years, the Party, government and people of Da Nang have constantly made efforts to gain many outstanding achievements. In particular, the city’s average growth rate of gross regional domestic product (GRDP) during the 1997-2021 period is about 9% per year. GRDP’s per capita income is now more than 15 times higher than that in 1997 and higher than about approx. 1.7 times the whole country.

Da Nang is one of 16 localities with central budget regulation. Besides, the city has overcome the difficult period in 2020 and 2021 and its GRDP increased by 16.7%. The city ranks 4^th out of the 63 provinces and cities on the growth rate of GRDP. Also, it ranks 3^rd out of the 14 provinces and cities in the North Central and Central Coast regions, and takes the lead in 5 provinces and cities in the Central Key Economic Zone in terms of scale and growth rate of GRDP.

The urban appearance of the city changes in the direction of civilisation and modernity. Urban space is expanded 3.5 times more than that in 1997. The city effectively implements the 'City of 4 Safe Programmes', and the '5 No's, 3 Yes's' campaigns.

During the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, the city determines to focus on 4 pillars for development: tourism associated with resort real estate and an international event centre; knowledge economy with the spearheads of high-tech industry associated with creative urban construction, and start-up, information technology, electronics and telecommunications industry associated with the digital economy; a high-quality service centre with two spearheads of seaports and airports associated with logistics services and an international financial centre of regional scale; and cultural development on a par with politics, economy and society associated with tourism development.

Municipal Party chief Quang thanked the former leaders of the Quang Da Special Zone’s Party Committee for their special attention, monitoring and valuable suggestions over the past years. He wished that both Da Nang and Quang Nam Province will continue to receive sincere and frank comments to recover their economies, and develop faster and more sustainably.

Also on the same day, Secretary Nguyen Van Quang visited the families of Ho Nghinh and Tran Than, late Secretaries of the Quang Da Special Zone’s Party Committee.

On behalf of the city's leaders, Mr. Quang highly hailed late secretaries for their great devotion for the national revolution and the city’s progress.
