President Vo Van Thuong had a meeting with representatives of a number of retired senior officials and generals in Da Nang on Friday.

In his speech delivered at the meeting, municipal Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Van Quang extended his congratulations to President Vo Van Thuong on his recent election as the State leader of Viet Nam.

He took the opportunity to thank the State leader for taking the time to visit the city and meet with local retired senior officials and generals. He hoped that President Thuong would continue to pay much attention to directing Da Nang in implementing political tasks, thereby contributing to creating a driving force for the city to develop strongly in the coming time.

Secretary Quang remarked that despite many difficulties and challenges, the city's economy still maintained a good growth rate in the first quarter of the year. Specifically, with an increase of 7.12% in the first quarter of 2023, Da Nang's GRDP leads the central key economic region and is ranked second among the five centrally-governed cities in terms of growth rate. The total number of guests staying at accommodation establishments was 4.7 times higher than that over the same period last year. Revenue from accommodation and catering services was estimated at VND5,206 billion, up 73.5% over the same period in 2022.

Most recently, Da Nang has been named among top 5 localities in the Provincial Green Index (PGI) rankings 2022, and top 10 in the Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) rankings.

The city Party chief Quang remarked that the aforementioned positive results were greatly attributed to the close attention and direction of the Central Government, the leadership of the Party and the State, and a high sense of consensus and sincere and responsible suggestions of retired senior officials in the city.

President Vo Van Thuong highly appreciated and acknowledged the sincere and frank contributions of retired senior officials and generals in the fields of Party-building and rectification, anti-corruption, healthcare, education, and national defence and security.

He hoped that the city would continue to promote the tradition of solidarity to realise its targets set in Resolution No. 43 regarding the Da Nang's development to 2030 with a vision to 2045 dated 24 January, 2019 and Resolution No. 26 dated November 3, 2022 on socio-economic development and national defence and security assurance in the North Central and Central Coast regions to 2030, with a vision to 2045.
