During his meeting on Tuesday with Governor of Thailand’s Phuket Province Narong Woonciew in Da Nang, municipal People’s Committee Chairman Le Trung Chinh highly appreciated the friendship between Viet Nam and Thailand over the past time. He remarked that 2023 marked the 10^th founding anniversary of the Viet Nam-Thailand strategic partnership.

According to Thai media, Da Nang is one of the most popular tourist destinations among international tourists because of its impressive tourism products, developed infrastructure system, modern seaports and international airports, airy urban landscape and fresh air. Since 2010, the city has witnessed a surge in the number of Thai tourists.

Chairman Chinh suggested that Da Nang and Phuket Province should establish friendly and cooperative relations in the near future, especially promoting cooperation in tourism services which are their strengths.

He took the opportunity to appeal for more Thai investors, including those from Phuket Province to visit and seek investment opportunities in Da Nang in such aspects as information technology, industrial industry, high-tech, seaports, and airports.

"We are committed to ensuring safety and creating favourable conditions for investors and tourists from Thailand in general and Phuket Province in particular, to seek investment and travel opportunities in the city” the city leader emphasised.

In reply, Phuket Province Governor Narong Woonciew thanked the city leader for his warm welcome. At the same time, he expressed his impression on Da Nang’s outstanding achievements in recent years, especially its diverse and unique tourism products.

The Thai guest highly agreed with the proposal of Chairman Chinh on promoting the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding to establish friendly and cooperative relations between Phuket and Da Nang, which will open up many cooperation opportunities for the two sides, thereby contributing to deepening the relationship between Thailand and Viet Nam.

Governor Narong Woonciew informed that in the first 7 months of 2023, more than 22,000 Vietnamese tourists came to Phuket Province, an increase of 142% more than the same period in 2019. This is a good sign that the tourism market is gradually recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic.

On this basis, the Phuket Provincial Tourism Association proposed Da Nang to promote the opening of more direct flights from Da Nang to localities of Thailand in order to facilitate cooperation between the two sides in tourism.

Governor Narong Woonciew expressed his desire to look for cooperation opportunities with Da Nang in the field of healthcare and human resource training in the field of tourism. He pledged to act as a bridge to promote the development of friendly relations between Phuket and Da Nang in the years ahead.
