Construction on shelter for AO affected children begins
On Wednesday, the Da Nang Association of Agent Orange (AO) Victims broke ground for the new Shelter No1 for local AO affected children on Nguyen Van Hue Street, Thanh Khe District’s Thanh Khe Tay Ward. The old shelter was located on Lien Chieu District’s 119 Nguyen Nhu Hanh Street near the railway tracks.
The shelter is under the management of the city’s Support Centre for AO Victims and Disadvantaged Children. It is being built on an area of 700m2 at a cost of 3.5 billion VND, and is funded by the Bank for Investment and Development of Viet Nam (BIDV).
Addressing the event, the municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman, Mr Vo Duy Khuong, thanked local social organisations and businesses for their great support for local AO victims and for helping them to overcome difficulties. Over the past years, local authorities have created the most favourable conditions enabling local AO victims to attend vocational training courses as well as helping them to confidently integrate into the community.
Vice Chairman Khuong took this opportunity to call for more donations from local individuals and organisations to ensure sufficient equipment to give the best care to AO affected children as well as to facilitate their studies.
