Cheap loaves of bread for the poor

Over the past 6 months, the Da Nang Children’s Smile Club has been selling cheap loaves of bread, which are priced at only 1,000 VND each, to local poor people.  They are sold in front of the Tran Cao Van primary school to waste material dealers, lottery ticket sellers, cyclo riders, and poor students.  This sales programme is implemented on the first Sunday of every month.

Mrs Nga, who is a waste material dealer, is one of the club’s regular customers.  She said that despite the low price of the bread, it has much the same nutritional value as bread costing 12,000 VND at local bakeries.

The club members have been actively involved in selling movie tickets for the Le Do Cinema and raising money from local generous donors, as well as using their own money to regularly maintain this programme.  In addition, the Children’s Smile Club has organised many charity programmes to help local poor children who are living in mountainous communes in Hoa Vang District, as well as those living in Quang Nam Province’s poor districts.
