On Wednesday, a national online conference on the implementation of a vocational training programme for rural people over the 2010 - 2012 period was held under the chairmanship of the Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan.

Participants in Da Nang were the municipal People's Committee Vice Chairman, Mr Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, and some leaders of local relevant agencies and departments.

During the review period, over 1 million rural people took vocational training courses at a cost of around 5,000 billion VND.  Of these, nearly 500,000 took agricultural training courses.

After graduating from their courses, more than 800,000 found new jobs or earned a higher income than previously.   Nearly 200,000 were employed by nationwide enterprises.  Most notably, over 55,000 poor people were able to find suitable jobs and escape from poverty.

The country is striving to reach its target of providing vocational training courses for an additional 600,000 rural people.  70% of the trainees are expected to find jobs or earn higher incomes.

In Da Nang, more than 3,300 rural people were provided with vocational training courses over the past 3 years, and over 92% of them found jobs.  The courses were in cooking, reception skills, electricity, and freshwater aquaculture.  This year, the city is aiming to provide training courses for an extra 900 rural people, representing a 47% increase in the number of local trainees.
