Birth rate drops by 0.41‰ per year
After 10 years of implementing the Population Ordinance, Da Nang’s birth rate has declined by an average of 0.41‰ per year over the decade. The past 10 years have also seen a steady decrease in the number of third-child births among local couples.
In detail, the average number of children born per woman fell sharply from 2.76 in 2001 to 1.94 in 2008, which is below replacement level. Currently, the local sex ratio at birth is 108 boys per 100 girls.
According to the local Agency of Population and Family Planning, the city has witnessed changes in both the quantity and quality of the local population. In particular, average life expectancy for local residents is now 75.9 years, and the malnutrition rate in children under 5 has dramatically reduced from 23.6% in 2003 to 5.4% in 2012.
