Outstanding events and achievements over the past decade
Over the past 10 years, Da Nang’s authorities and local residents have ceaselessly strived to make their city a first-grade city.
Danang Today would like to share with our readers some photos, taken by our reporters and local photographers, which reflect the city’s remarkable events and construction achievements over the past decade.
The Rong (Dragon) and Tran Thi Ly bridges

The Rong (Dragon) and Tran Thi Ly bridges over the Han River were officially inaugurated on 29 March 2013, marking the 38th anniversary of the liberation of the city.
The Thuan Phuoc Bridge - the longest suspension bridge in Viet Nam
Inaugurated on 19 July 2009, the Thuan Phuoc Bridge across the mouth of the Han River links the Nguyen Tat Thanh Street with the Hoang Sa - Truong Sa route, which is considered to be Viet Nam’s longest coastal urban routeway. The bridge has helped to connect all the tourist attractions from the Hai Van Tunnel through to Hoi An City. The construction of the 2.1km-long bridge, with its 655m-long suspended main span, cost a total of around 1 trillion VND.
The Da Nang Cancer Hospital - the first of its kind in the central region and highlands

The Da Nang Cancer Hospital was officially opened on 19 January 2013. The hospital cost over 1,500 billion VND to build, with the funds raised from domestic and foreign individuals and organisations.
The new Da Nang International Airport Terminal

The new Da Nang International Airport Terminal, at Viet Nam’s 3rd largest airport, came into service on 25 December 2011. The 1,345 billion VND terminal offers a usable area of 36,600m2 on three storeys. The airport has specialised civil aviation electronic systems installed which enables it to handle up to 6 million passengers per year.
The Da Nang International Fireworks Competition

Since it first took place in 2008, the Da Nang International Fireworks Competition has become a popular event in Viet Nam, and perhaps in the world. Over its 6 years, the event has helped to develop the city’s tourism sector by attracting many more domestic and foreign investors to the city during the fireworks festival. Most notably, this year saw a remarkable 400,000 domestic and foreign visitors coming to the city over the DIFC 2013 period.
Da Nang names 2 sections of new road after the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos

The 27-m long road running south from Son Tra Peninsula to the boundary with Quang Nam Province was named after the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos. The proposal was approved at the 7th session of the Da Nang People's Council (PC) for the 2004 – 2011 term. The name selection firmly reaffirms Viet Nam’s indisputable sovereignty over the two archipelagos.
The Da Nang Maternity and Paediatrics Hospital – first of its kind in the central region

The Da Nang Maternity and Paediatrics Hospital opened its doors on 20 April 2011. The 11-storey hospital has 550 beds in 16 wards, and is installed with the latest modern equipment.
The Trung Vuong Theatre – a venue for major cultural and entertainment events

The new Trung Vuong Theatre was inaugurated on 31 December 2006 to mark the 10th anniversary of Da Nang’s recognition as a centrally-governed city. The 1,200-seat theatre often holds major cultural events, conferences and meetings for local businesses, musical performances, and many other events.
My Khe Beach voted one of the 6 most beautiful beaches in the world

In 2005, the My Khe Beach was voted one of the 6 most beautiful beaches in the world by the US Forbes Magazine. With its clear blue waters and soft white sands which sparkle in the sunlight, the beach is an ideal place for both locals and visitors.
SHB Da Nang Football Club - V-League champions in 2009 and 2012

In 2009, the city’s football team became the champions of the V-League for the first time in 17 years. They also won the National Cup in the same year. Three years later, in 2012, the team were crowned V-League champions again, and won the Vietnamese Super Cup.
Le Quy Don Senior High School for Gifted Students receives numerous outstanding achievements

The Le Quy Don Senior High School for Gifted Students is considered one of the best places for training the talent of the city. Thanks to the great efforts of the school’s teaching staff, the school’s students have brought home over 20 prizes from international and Asian competitions in such subjects as physics, informatics, and biology.
Hoa Tien Commune takes the lead in upgrading its rural area

Hoa Tien Commune in Hoa Vang District has taken the lead in upgrading rural areas. The commune has witnessed positive changes in infrastructure and improved living standards, with new roads, spacious housing, and thriving commercial rice fields.
