The Head of the Da Nang Criminal Investigation Department, Senior Lt Col Tran Muu, said that since mid-August his department has gathered enough evidence to prosecute 4 offenders for “gambling” and “organising gambling”.  They were all involved in illegal online football betting through the Ibet888 website between November 2012 and February 2013.

They are 32-year-old Huynh Le Duy Viet, former chief accountant of the city’s branch of the Ben Tre Pharmaceutical Company, 31-year-old Nguyen Thanh Hung, 38-year-old Nguyen Thai Minh, and 24-year-old Phan Van Minh, all from Son Tra District.

According to their confession, Viet lost 3.136 billion VND in bets and, of this, Minh kept 40 million VND as commission, and Hung 35 million VND.

Apart from selling his own car, Viet forged the signature of his company’s account holder to embezzle more than 5.8 billion VND from the company to pay his debt.  Previously, Viet had been prosecuted for “abusing trust in order to appropriate property” by the PC46 Police Unit of the city’s Police Department.
