An ASEAN conference is being held in Da Nang from 19 - 22 August  to discuss effective measures to promote the rights to nationality for women and children, as outlined in the Conventions on Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), and the Rights of the Child (CRC).

The event is being co-organised by the Vietnamese Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and the United Nations Women (UN Women).

The conference is to discuss ASEAN’s efforts to ensure women and children’s rights to acquire nationality, as well as to provide an opportunity for its member countries to share information, experiences and challenges in this aspect.  In addition, strategies and measures for realising related recommendations will be presented at the event.

The event will also help to boost the bilateral partnership between  the ASEAN Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children (ACWC) and the UNHCR, to promote and protect the rights of women and children in general, and their rights to have nationality in particular.
