The Da Nang Police said that since May numerous motorcycle thefts, targeting the Honda Wave particularly, have occurred throughout the city.  In an effort to deal with this problem, the PC65 Police Unit of the city’s Police Department has taken strong measures, including increasing their patrols and checks.

At 8.20pm on 28 July, local police who were on duty near the Pho Quang Pagoda in Thanh Khe District arrested 2 offenders who were trying to illegally unlock a Honda Wave with registration plate 43S6-0498 which belonged to Mrs Nguyen Thi Bong from An Khe Ward.  The offenders are 32-year-old Bui Duc Hien Em from the city’s Hoa Vang District, and 24-year-old Truong To Nhu from Vinh Long Province.

So far, Hien Em and his accomplice 24-year-old Nguyen Long from Ngu Hanh Son District have successfully carried out dozens of thefts across the city.  They have then sold the stolen motorcycles to 38-year-old Ha Thanh Tung from Ho Chi Minh City, 21-year-old Bui Trung Thanh from Quang Nam Province, and 23-year-old Le Van Thong from Hoa Vang District.  Investigators have already identified 11 victims of the thefts.

As a result, offenders Hien Em, To Nhu, Nguyen Long, and Van Thong have all been charged with “stealing property” under Article 138 of the Vietnamese Penal Code, and have been temporarily detained whilst awaiting trial.  In addition, their accomplices Thanh Tung and Trung Thanh are wanted nationwide for “stealing and consuming property acquired through the commission of crimes by other persons”.
