On Wednesday, the Da Nang People's Committee Vice Chairman, Mr Phung Tan Viet, had a working session with some representatives of the Asian Urban Development Consulting Consortium (AUDEC) and Japan’s NEWJEC Company.

They discussed the implementation of “A Feasibility Study on the Low-carbon City Model in Da Nang” project and exchanged detailed information about appealing to Japanese businesses to invest in aspects of this project.

The visiting guests said that the energy working group of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) officially approved Da Nang’s project at the 44th APEC energy meeting in Washington DC, USA on 11 November 2012.  As a result, the 3rd phase of the project was implemented between 28 December 2012 and 15 February 2013, and a meeting took place in the city in May to begin the project’s feasibility study.

Vice Chairman Viet asked those who are involved in this project to focus on conducting research into the local transport infrastructure, waste water, rubbish and energy sources.

Top priority will be given to taking medium and long-term measures to reach the city’s target of meeting the air emission standards of EURO 4 and EURO 5.  Special attention will be given to meeting the standard emission models for high-rise buildings and effective rubbish treatment systems, and developing long-term strategies for using high-tech recycled and clean energy.
