Co-organised by the Da Nang Department of Information and Communications, and International Business Machines (IBM), a seminar entitled “Realising Da Nang’s Vision of Developing itself into a Smarter City” took place in the city on Wednesday.  The purpose of the seminar was to announce the successful implementation of the 1st phase of the smarter traffic and water systems project which aims to improve the living standards of local residents.

In the next stage of the project, IBM’s Intelligent Operations Centre will provide Da Nang with a summary of local events and incidents through maps, control panels and alerts.  This will help local authorities and relevant agencies to track trends and forecast future demand, as well as better manage the local infrastructure and assets.  In particular, top priority will be given to the local transport system and clean water management which play a vital role in the lives of local residents.

As for the clean water management, the IBM Intelligent Water Solution will help the Da Nang Water Supply Company to check the quality of water.  Thanks to IBM’s software, the company will have an instant view of the operation of their water management, and receive alerts and notifications when a deviation from the standard index or a change in water quality is detected.

In addition, IBM will help the city to effectively manage its public transport network, especially its bus routes.  In particular, the Da Nang Department of Transport will be able to manage the real-time operational information of 100 local buses, including their speed, location and predicted journey times.  Passengers will be immediately informed of changes to the bus routes, the timetables and estimated arrival times via the department’s web portal.
