On Tuesday, a meeting about traffic arrangements around Da Nang’s new Administration Centre took place in the city under the chairmanship of the municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman, Mr Nguyen Ngoc Tuan.

According to a survey conducted by the city’s Department of Transport, 1,600 officials and employees will work at the new centre each day, and 600 visitors will come to the centre for administrative transactions after the centre officially opens its doors in October.  As a result, the centre should provide enough parking spaces for 240 cars and 2,160 motorbikes for its employees and visitors.

In addition, 5 other premises near the centre contribute to the busy traffic network nearby.  They are the Software Park with up to 1,200 employees and visitors per day, the Novotel with 500, the Hoang Van Thu Primary School with 1,200 pupils, their teachers and parents, and Branch No1 of the Duy Tan University with 800 students.

Furthermore, there are 9,840 motorbikes and 330 cars on the western side of the Han River Bridge and Le Duan Street every day.  Therefore, road users could face traffic chaos once the new centre is operational.

In an attempt to deal with this problem, the Department has made a short-term plan for arranging the traffic and parking near the Administrative Centre.  In detail, 5 parking lots will be established around the centre.  There will be 2 basement parks at the centre itself, accommodating 123 cars and 1,069 motorbikes.  Then there will be the Thai Phien Club for 20 cars and 200 motorbikes, the tennis courts on Bach Dang Street for 614 motorbikes, and the courtyard of the municipal People's Committee Meeting Hall for 104 cars.  In addition, a pier and pavement along Bach Dang Street, which covers an area of 3,500 m2, can provide parking spaces for 195 cars and 300 motorbikes.

Two underground parking areas at the Novotel and on the southern side of the new centre will put into operation in 2014.  The city is planning to operate 5 bus routes passing the new Administrative Centre.  The routes are Kim Lien Street - Han Market - Mai Market, Xuan Dieu Street – Metro - Dai Chanh Street, Nguyen Tat Thanh Street - Xuan Dieu Street, Son Tra District’s Tho Quang Ward - the southern side of Cam Le Bridge, and Xuan Dieu Street - Lotte Mart.  The funding for the construction of bus stops for these routes will be from the city’s budget.

Vice Chairman Tuan agreed with the plans prepared by the local Department of Transport.
