Storm No 8 weakens
Tropical storm No 8 weakened into a low-pressure area early this morning after producing heavy rainfall and strong winds in Da Nang, Thua Thien Hue and Quang Nam provinces over the last 24 hours.
This morning, 19 September, the depression was positioned over the mainland areas from Thua Thien Hue to Quang Nam provinces, at latitude 15°7’N and longitude 107°5’E. The strongest wind speeds near its centre are below 39kph.
During the next 12 hours, it is expected to move in a westerly or south-westerly direction at a speed of 15kph, and then it will dissipate.
Due to the effects of the low-pressure area, the coastal areas from Nghe An to Thua Thien Hue provinces will see heavy showers and thunderstorms. In addition, south-westerly winds of level 7/8 and scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to affect the coastal areas from Binh Thuan to Ca Mau provinces and the Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago area.
