According to the latest figures, at least 2 people from Quang Nam Province were killed, and 11 from Da Nang were injured after tropical storm Nari made landfall in the city early this morning.

The storm removed the roofs of dozens of houses, and uprooted thousands of trees causing traffic blockages on many streets in the city.  It brought moderate to heavy rainfall of up to 70mm to the central coastal provinces from Thua Thien-Hue to Quang Ngai.

The storm is forecast to trigger torrential rains on the Da Nang area over the next few days before weakening into a depression.

The Deputy Head of the Central Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Control and Mitigation, Mr Cao Duc Phat, has asked the city’s authorities to promptly provide emergency aid to the storm victims, to unblock Highway 1A, and to handle all the consequences of the storm.

The city’s branch of the Central Power Corporation was urged to deal with power outages in hardest-hit areas, especially schools and hospitals.  Special attention will be paid to ensuring that there are sufficient supplies of essential goods for local residents after the storm, and to protecting the environment to control and prevent epidemics.
