A suspected dengue fever death
The first death from suspected dengue fever so far this year has been recorded in Da Nang. The victim was identified as 13-year-old Huynh Luu B N from Lien Chieu District’s Hoa Khanh Bac Ward.
She started suffering a high fever and headache on 12 October. Four days later, her condition had deteriorated and she was rushed into the Lien Chieu District Medical Centre. In the evening of 17 October, she was transferred to the Maternity and Paediatrics Hospital for further treatment with her symptoms being a high fever, febrile convulsions, shivers, nausea and signs of an early menstrual period.
However, the girl did not respond to treatment and she subsequently died at 6.45am on 18 October. The diagnosis of death was severe dengue infection, complications of coagulopathy, and type III respiratory failure. She has been tested positive with MAC-ELISA at the city’s Preventive Medicine Centre. Her serum samples have been sent to Nha Trang City's Pasteur Institute for further tests to identify the exact cause of her death.
