Review of Red Cross branches in local schools
162 of Da Nang’s 176 local schools had Red Cross branches during the 2012 - 2013 academic year. Collectively they have raised over 3.7 billion VND for charitable activities over the period, an increase of around 1.7 billion VND compared with the 2011 - 2012 academic year.
This figure was released at a meeting last Friday which reviewed the operation of the Red Cross branches in local schools.
During the review period, the branches have worked with relevant agencies to raise awareness of epidemic disease control and prevention among school pupils and teachers. Special attention was also paid to providing free medical examinations and medicines for over 39,000 pupils.
Also, training courses on how to cope with natural disasters were arranged for 20,607 pupils and teachers, and 423 first-aid skill courses were provided for 37,000.
During the last academic year, the Red Cross branches also raised over 1 billion VND to help 695 poor pupils, and teaching staff members and pupils who were sick. In addition, 675 Tet gifts were given to poor pupils, and 5,105 to local Agent Orange victims. The total value of the gifts was around 1 billion VND.
