Storm No 10, with gale-force winds of up to 149kph (level 12/13) near its centre, has left scenes of havoc after it made landfall in the mainland areas from Ha Tinh to Quang Binh provinces.  The storm is considered to have been the most powerful storm in Viet Nam in the last 6 years, equivalent to the deadly typhoon Xangsane that hit Da Nang in October 2006.

According to the latest figures, the storm has been blamed for 2 deaths, 26 injuries, and over 5,400 collapsed or roof-damaged houses.

The Electricity of Viet Nam (EVN) company said that the power lines linking Ha Tinh with Da Nang were disrupted, causing power outages in the areas from Ha Tinh to Thua Thien Hue provinces.

Representatives from the national flag carrier, Vietnam Airlines, said that 8 domestic flights, involving over 1,010 passengers in total, were cancelled on Monday due to the storm.  The cancelled flights were 2 flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Quang Binh Province’s Dong Hoi City, 2 from Ha Noi to Da Nang, and 4 from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Nang.  In addition, the carrier had to change the flight time of 11 flights to and from Da Nang.
