Severe storm expected to hit the city early tomorrow morning
Storm Nari, the 11th to enter the East Sea so far this year, is forecast to lash between the northern part of Da Nang and Thua Thien- Hue Province at around 4.00am tomorrow, 15 October.
At 4pm today, the storm with its wind speeds of up to 149kph should be positioned about 140km east of the coastal areas from Quang Tri to Quang Ngai provinces.
However, which exact province the storm will first hit is very hard to predict because there are many different predictions being made by international hydro-meteorological forecasting centres. The US Navy's Joint Typhoon Warning Centre forecasts that the storm could make landfall between Da Nang and Quang Nam Province’s Hoi An City, the Hong Kong Observatory predicts it to hit Hue City, and the Japan and Beijing Meteorological agencies forecasts it to hit land in Quang Binh Province’s Dong Hoi City.

The storm is predicted to be equivalent to, or even stronger than, the deadly typhoon Xangsane which hit Da Nang in October 2006, and the recent storm which hit Quang Binh in early October.
From tonight, moderate to heavy showers and strong winds are expected to affect the Da Nang area and elsewhere in the coastal areas from Ha Tinh to Quang Ngai provinces. People in these coastal areas should be cautious about rising-sea levels in combination with a high tide of up to 4m.
