Storm damage approaching 900 billion VND

During his meeting on Wednesday morning with the Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Nguyen Xuan Phuc, the Da Nang People’s Committee Chairman, Mr Van Huu Chien, said that his city had been right in the centre of the recent Storm Nari.  Thanks to its proactive preparations for the storm's arrival, however, the city saw only slight personal damage with only 11 injuries.

Chairman Chien added that, before the storm made landfall in the city, thousands of local residents had been evacuated to safe shelters and 1,848 fishing vessels from the city and other localities had sought shelter at the Tho Quang fishing wharf. 

An armoured car was used to take 3 people injured by the storm from Ngu Hanh Son District to hospital.

The city leader added that the storm completely flattened 122 houses, blew the roofs off 1,134, and damaged the roofs of another 4,137.  It caused damage currently estimated at around 868.8 billion VND, and this figure excludes the losses to local business.

Deputy Prime Minister Phuc praised the great efforts made by the local authorities in taking effective proactive measures to cope with the storm.

On the same day, the Deputy Prime Minister visited and presented a gift to one badly affected family in Son Tra District.  He also gave gifts to the teaching staff of Hoang Van Thu Primary School which suffered severe damage in the storm.
