On Tuesday, the Head of the PC47 Division of the Da Nang Police Department, Senior Lt Col Nguyen Van Hoa, said that his unit has successfully broken up a transnational drug ring.  Four suspects were arrested, and about 500 grams of methamphetamine were seized, after a more than 3-month investigation into drug-related crime.

He added that the offenders were temporarily detained for “buying and selling drugs illegally” under Article 194 of the Vietnamese Criminal Procedure Code.

On 1 August, 23-year-old Nguyen Truong Sang from Quang Nam Province’s Bac Tra My District had been captured at 6.30pm at the approach to the southern end of the Hai Van Pass.  He was charged with illegal drug transportation after the local police had found and seized 500 grams of methamphetamine, a Suzuki Sport motorcycle, and 8 million VND in cash.

According to Sang’s confession, on four occasions he had bought drugs in Quang Binh Province from Huynh Van Minh.  Then he sold them to drug addicts in Da Nang and Quang Nam Province.

Later that day, two of Sang’s accomplices were also arrested for their involvement in illegal drug trafficking.  They were 27-year-old Nguyen Quoc Nhat, and 22-year-old Nguyen Khanh The, both from Quang Nam Province’s Dai Loc District.

Following up on the case, on 24 September the police in Da Nang and Quang Binh Province captured Huynh Van Minh at the province’s Cha Lo border gate.  Minh admitted that he often bought methamphetamines from Laos, and then sold them to Sang at 840,000 VND per gram.
