Water supply service discussed
During a recent meeting with the Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Council (PC), Mr Huynh Nghia, and some members of the municipal PC, the Da Nang Water Supply Company (DAWACO) said that it now has 4 plants with a total supply capacity of 207,000 cubic metres per day. The proportion of the city’s total population who have access to tap water is now 83.89%, and water losses are below 19%.
However, the company is now facing many difficulties due to a hike in the cost of input materials while the selling price of its water has not yet been adjusted. In addition, the water supply pipe networks in many areas are damaged, which is leading to water leakages.
The increase in production costs, and the instability of water and power supplies, is attributed to the raw water being used from the An Trach Dam instead of from the Cau Do (Red Bridge) River which has been suffering from salt-water contamination for a long time. As a result, the DAWACO has suggested that the local authorities should grant between 5 and 7 billion VND to buy a spare generator for the company’s pumping station.
