Asthma cases increase
In the recent cooler days, the Emergency Department of the Da Nang Maternity and Paediatrics Hospital has seen a significant increase in the number of child patients suffering from asthma. Up to 15 cases with medium to severe symptoms have been admitted to the department every day.
The head of the department, Dr Le Thanh Cam, said that the increase is related to the sudden change in environmental temperature. As a result, parents should pay special attention to keeping their children warm on these cooler days. In addition, they should avoid giving their children cold food and drinks, especially any which might cause allergies for their children. Dr Cam advised that children with any asthmatic symptoms should be taken to a local health care facility for prompt examination and treatment.
This month has also seen an increase in the number of patients with hand, foot and mouth disease in the city.
However, this year has seen a lower volume of dengue fever cases as compared with previous years, but those hospitalised for this disease often suffer from severe symptoms. At the present moment, 2 children with dengue fever are receiving intensive care at the Maternity and Paediatrics Hospital.
