The Da Nang Police Department is launching a traffic safety campaign, which will run until 15 February 2014, aimed at ensuring the city’s traffic order and safety over the Christmas and New Year holidays, and the Tet period.

The city police will focus on increasing their patrols and checks on major streets in all districts to deal with drivers with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the permitted levels, or those who exceed the speed limit.  They will also pay special attention to cases of overloaded vehicles, travelling in the wrong lanes, riding motorcycles without wearing helmets, as well as pupils riding motorbikes to schools.

In addition, strict punishments will be imposed for coaches carrying a higher number of passengers than legally allowed, and for drivers who violate the regulations on parking or picking up and dropping off passengers.  Specifically, from 10 January to 10 February, police officers across the city will increase their checks of all kinds of coaches.

An emphasis will be on increasing checks and imposing administrative punishments on rail traffic violations, especially ensuring traffic order and safety in residential areas near railway tracks where there are high accident risks.

Furthermore, strict penalties will be imposed on any ships which do not meet the required safety standards, or are not equipped with life-saving equipment.  There will also be a punishment for captains who do not have any certificates, and for those who are involved in illegal sand exploitation on the river.
