In 2013, 450 environment protection campaigns were launched across Da Nang by the municipal Youth Union organisations and its members.  The “Self-Management Youth Street” model has been implemented in local communes and wards.

Local Youth Union members removed about 18,200 illegal advertisements on power poles, alleys and in other public areas, and collected over 2,000 cubic metres of rubbish.

Furthermore, thousands of Youth Union members became actively involved in numerous local volunteer activities.  They built over 6,000km of concrete roads in rural areas, and provided free medical checks-up, treatment and medicines, worth about 300 million VND, for more than 8,000 poor local people.  They also gave electronic appliances to over 2,000 families, and helped them to repair their household electricity systems.

In addition, a total of 16,549 units of blood were collected from over 19,000 local Youth Union members.

These figures were released by the Da Nang Youth Union at a meeting on Thursday afternoon to review its performance over the past year.

Also at the event, it was announced that 2014 will be designated the “Year for Youth Volunteers”.  Therefore, the city’s Youth Union will focus on promoting more volunteer activities.  Many large campaigns will be launched in this year, including the Youth Month, a festival to honour outstanding Youth Union members who follow Uncle Ho's teachings, a Young Creative Competition, the 7th Youth Federation Congress, and a Festive Day for Volunteers.
