The trial of 37-year-old Huynh Dac Lam from Hai Chau District took place in Da Nang on Sunday. 

Lam was sentenced to 9 years in prison for “defrauding money and appropriating property”.  In addition, he was required to compensate his victims for the illegally defrauded money, valued at 215.5 million VND. 

According to the indictment, between March and June 2013, the fraudster described himself as a local police officer as well as saying he had a good relationship with the leaders of the local authorities and relevant agencies.  He promised to help those in need either get jobs or receive new residential apartments and relocate them from their present ones.  With his deceptive tricks, Lam defrauded 8 local people of money, including 25 million VND from Ta Thi Ngoc from Hai Chau District.  Ngo Thi Chung Hien and Luu Thi Loan from 79 Yen Bai Street lost 25.5 million VND and 47 million VND respectively, and Le Thi Oanh Em from Son Tra District lost 10 million VND.
