Helping the poor to celebrate Tet
In these days leading up to the Tet Festival, many individuals, organisations, departments, agencies, businesses and the local authorities in Da Nang are actively involved in preparing gifts of cash and materials to give to local poor people and workers.
The Chairwoman of the trade union organisation of the local industrial parks (IPs) and export processing zones, Ms Dinh Thi Thanh Ha, said that the trade union organisations in businesses located at the city’s IPs have already planned to present Tet gifts, worth between 80,000 and 150,000 VND each, to their workers. She added that sales fairs will be held at the Tho Quang and Hoa Khanh industrial parks to meet the increasing purchasing demands of their workers in the days leading up to the Tet Festival. Most notably, the goods will be sold under the local market price stabilisation programme.

The Viet Hoa Electronics and Vina Kad Garment companies located in the Hoa Khanh Industrial Park will support bus and train fares for their workers to help them return to their hometowns to celebrate Tet with their families.
The municipal Labour Union will present 1,800 gifts, worth 500,000 VND each, to local poor employees. In addition, the city authorities will provide a total of 1,300 tonnes of rice to over 85,000 local poor people, at 15kg per person. The distribution is expected to be completed by 26 January.
Local volunteer students have recently presented Tet gifts to 170 orphaned children at the SOS Children's Village. Earlier, on 29 December, 780 gifts wrapped by Dong A University’s 2,000 students, along with 940 donated by the university’s trade union organisation, had already been given to local poor and disadvantaged children.
