More houses built for the poor
Many organisations and individuals in Da Nang have given generous donations to bring a warm Tet Festival to local needy people, social policy families, and children in mountainous areas.
Mrs Nguyen Thi Luu from Hoa Vang District’s Hoa Phong Commune is very happy with her newly-built house. 50 million VND of the total construction cost was funded by the Da Nang branch of the Bank for Foreign Trade of Viet Nam (Vietcombank), whilst 35 million VND was from her relatives. In addition, local authorities have donated household utensils to Mrs Luu.

Another poor woman, Vo Thi Thi from Son Tra District’s Man Thai Ward, is facing many financial difficulties in raising her three children by herself. She said that she had a strong desire for a spacious house. Finally, her dream came true as the building of her house was funded by the commune’s Fatherland Front Committee. Mrs Thi has been also given a bag of rice and a large Tet gift.
Despite their difficult circumstances, over 800 members of the city’s Association of Blind People donated 50 million VND in total to build a house for Ms Dinh Thi Hien, a social policy beneficiary from Hoa Phong Commune. The needy woman was also touched by the donation of household utensils from the Association.
The city’s Association of Charity and Children’s Rights Protection has already raised money from local organisations and individuals to give Tet gifts to 1,215 needy families and patients at local hospitals. In addition, 80 million VND was raised from the Da Nang and Quang Nam Fellow Countrymen’s Associations in Ho Chi Minh City and 50 million VND from the Vietcombank Da Nang. 16,000 local disadvantaged and very poor families also received Tet gifts from Fatherland Front organisations across the city.
Organised by the Da Nang branch of the Asia Commercial Bank (ACB), the “Journey for Connecting Dreams” programme featured joyful games and quiz shows for children from Hoa Vang District. The participants were delighted to receive lovely school bags.
Nearly 800 million VND has been raised so far this year for the poor for Tet by the Hoa Vang District authorities. Over 1,500 poor pupils have been given Tet gifts and 10 needy families have also received livelihood support.
The Hai Chau District’s authorities have given Tet gifts to local HIV-infected people in difficult circumstances, along with permanent residents who are living in social support centres. Tet gifts, worth nearly 500 million VND in total, have been also donated to 1,170 poor families in the district.
