On Monday, the Da Nang People’s Committee Vice Chairman, Mr Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, warmly received Professor Mitsuyasu Yabe from the Faculty of Environmental Economics at the Kyushu University in Japan.

Prof Yabe said that he was visiting the city to conduct a survey in order to make a feasibility study for the construction of a solid waste treatment plant, with the approval of the local authorities.  Most notably, he added, this plant would convert organic waste into fertiliser, especially liquid microbial organic fertiliser.  He also remarked that this would bring extra benefits to the city because the cost of recycling refuse is less than half that of landfilling it.

Vice Chairman Tuan noted that Da Nang is striving to become an environmentally friendly city with sustainable development by 2020.  Therefore, solid waste treatment is one of the city’s priorities because the local landfill area is likely to be full within the next 4 years.
